After many years of being puzzled by the inexplicable survival of religion in the 21st century I have concluded that people who are religious don\’t listen to the words of religious ceremonies, religious preachers, religious music, or read the words in their religious books.

These are words with no meaning, correspond to nothing in the real world – sacred spiritual angels ghosts devils demons satan blasphemy heaven hell divine holy prophecy miracle sin prayer soul – but words which millions of people in the real world have been killed for over several thousand years.
You haven\’t passed away. You aren\’t in another room. We won\’t meet again. God didn\’t need another angel. You\’re not resting in peace. You\’re not waiting for the last trump. You\’re not in a better place. You haven\’t been reunited with your loved ones. You haven\’t gone on before. You\’re just dead.
The only question when listening to a religious believer is whether they are a complete idiot or an incomplete idiot. Same with neoconservative politicians.
